Maimah Beatrice Stewart’s Obituary

Maimah Beatrice Stewart’s Obituary
Details

It is with profound sadness that the Goba, Stewart and Harris families announce the passing of their mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and grandmother, Maimah Beatrice Stewart at the age of 72. This sad event occurred on September 2, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a five-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Maimah was called by the Lord to take her rest.

Maimah was the daughter of Norman Stewart and Mary Goba, both of Todee District, Liberia. She was raised in Liberia, moved to the USA in 1974 and settled in the Baltimore area. Maimah was a hardworking member of the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma Unit for 34 years.

Maimah was a gentle soul with a strong and resilient spirit. She was the mother who wanted the best for her son, the cool aunt who knew when to scold and when to comfort. She was the coworker that others relied on to make the tough days easier to handle. Maimah’s generous spirit was felt amongst friends, family and others who she encountered. She was a wonderful mother to not only her biological child but also nieces, nephews and children of other relatives and friends.

Her professional life was a reflection of her dedication to service. Maimah devoted many years to the University of Maryland Medical System Shock Trauma Center, where she was not only a respected colleague but also a pillar of support and guidance. Her colleagues remember her as a source of unwavering support, always ready to lend an ear or share words of wisdom.

Maimah’s interests reached beyond the confines of her professional and family life, as she found joy and solace in the simple pleasure of tending to her garden which she considered her sanctuary. She was highly anticipating her retirement so that she would make her great move to Texas, to be with her grandnephews. Her goal was having the backyard garden she always dreamed of and relaxing on the porch while enjoying her tea as she impart life’s lessons to her grandbabies, teaching them that even the smallest seed, when nurtured with love and patience, can blossom into something extraordinary.

Maimah leaves to mourn her son, Yekeh S. Harris; her siblings Etmonia Russell, Larmie Sanyon, and Yvette Sanyon; her niece, Jasoe Sharpe Hargrove, whom she lovingly regarded as her daughter; her dear friend and daughter, Janet Miranda who stood by her and held her hand till the very end; as well as a host of other relatives.

As we mourn, let’s take solace in knowing that Maimah fought the good fight, she finished the race and she kept the faith. Let us honor her memory by living as she did—with courage, with compassion, and with an unwavering love for life. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Service arrangements will be shared as they become available.
